    Biography Johannes Vermeer (Dutch 1632 - 1675)

The life and art of Johannes Vermeer are closely related to the city of Delft. He was born in Delft in 1632 and lived there until his death in 1675. His father, Reynier Vermeer, was a weaver of silk occurred "Kaffa", a satin fine, but in 1631 Reynier also registered in the Guild of St. Luke in Delft as master art dealer. Reynier in 1641 was prosperous enough to buy a big house, the "Mechelen", which contained an inn in the market square in Delft, where he probably also sold paintings. Reynier When Johannes died in 1652 apparently inherited his father's business. At that time must have already decided on a career as a painter. Assumed to be formed in Delft, perhaps Leonaert Bramer (1596-1674), who seems to have had a close association with the Vermeer family, or Carel Fabritius (1622-1654). No documents, however, exist about his artistic training or apprenticeship, and he may have studied elsewhere, perhaps in Utrecht or Amsterdam.

Vermeer, who was baptized on 31 October 1632 in the Reformed Church in Delft, was raised a Protestant. In April 1653, however, Vermeer married a Catholic and seems to have converted to Catholicism shortly before that date to placate her future mother in law, Maria Thins. Maria Thins lived in the "corner of the papists'" ( "Papenhoek") of Delft, adjacent to one of two hidden churches where Catholics could worship, the church of the Jesuits in the Langendijck Oude. Vermeer and his wife, Catharina bolna, moved from the "Mechelen" at home. They named their first daughter, Mary, in honor of Maria Thins, and their first son Ignatius, after the patron saint of the Order of the Jesuits.

Vermeer became a master in the Guild of St Luke on 29 December 1653. Pictures of his aspiration that the time seems to be a history painter, his early works were large-scale mythological and religious. Shortly after he began painting genre scenes, landscapes and allegories of which has become so famous. While Vermeer's subject matter changed in the mid-1650s, however, continued to imbue his later works with the quiet, intimate moods in his paintings that he preferred the early history.

Although little is known about relationships with other painters who might have influenced the thematic and stylistic direction of his art, it seems, knew Vermeer, Gerard ter Borch II, who co-signed a document in 1653. Another artist might have had an impact on their work during the 1650s was Pieter de Hooch, an artist who painted scenes in Delft during the comparable period. Vermeer is still a respected artist in Delft during the rest of his life. He was appointed hoofdman Association of St. Luke in Delft in 1662, 1663, 1670 and 1671.

Some works by Vermeer - the thirty-five years - were not well known outside of Delft, perhaps because many of them focused on the recovery of a pattern in Delft, which seems to have had a special relationship with the artist. When Vermeer died, however, was heavily in debt, partly because his art dealing business had suffered during times of economic hardship in the Netherlands in the early 1670s. After his death he was survived by his wife Catharina and eleven children, eight of whom were minors. His wife filed for bankruptcy the following year. Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, the microscope of Delft, famous, who was apparently a friend of Vermeer, was appointed administrator of the estate.

The Chinese Painting by Fang Lijun

One of the main proponents of the 1990s cynical realist movement, Fang Lijun's work encapsulates the disillusionment of young people in China, a generation defined by the events in Tiananmen Square and the internal domestic policies of China. Built around loose narratives Fang customize images feelings of disappointment, anguish, and rebellion, its suggestions of fiction transmitted through his style of illustration and resubmission bald protagonist.

Fang's practice exhibits a rarefied technical skill rigorously studied through his Social Realist training, the combination of this aesthetic with references to contemporary comics, folk art, and dynastic painting characterize a changing national identity, the distillation of a position of integrity of tradition and the modern world.

Fang monumental sized prints revive the ancient Asian practice of printing on wood - a complicated and demanding of the stature of a "negative" image on a panel, coating the surface with ink, and impressing the image on paper, each different color and tone requires a separate plate and the print order. Due to its immense scale, Fang's images are composed of several adjacent rolls, the long strips to create both an emotional fragmentation of the image, and create a reference to the memory and historical evidence. Thematically, each of these prints describe the plight of the individual against the 'mass', creating a spiritual contemplation of solitude the quest for personal probity face of adversity.

Fang's painting 30th Mary evokes these same sentiments with a humorous effect. Reminiscent of paintings on the ceiling of the Church in Europe, Fang portrays an order of promotion of these same Kewpie figures, each based in its own image. Executed with painstaking hyper-realism, the storm clouds develop as a funnel rather than a promise rolling portal. In contrast to the palette pop kitsch and the provision of grotesque cherubs, Fang's painting is about the sanctity of a cynical ideological guarantee empathy.

For more information on Japanese art, please visit our collection in person or call the Department of Japanese Art at (323) 857-6565. Also visit our Collections Online.

    The Pavilion
The Pavilion for Japanese art is unique in America as a separate building dedicated to the exhibition of Japanese art in a large museum complex encyclopedic. The Pavilion houses the museum's collection of Japanese works dating from around 3000 BC to the twentieth century. The second level, west wing gallery is devoted to the exhibition of archaeological materials, Buddhist and Shinto sculpture, ceramics rendered in a calm and naturalistic style of tea or prepared for decoration or food service, lacquer work, textiles, armor and cloisonne. Some objects in this gallery are rotated occasionally, textiles are rotated quarterly. The adjacent space, the Helen and Felix Juda Gallery, is reserved mainly for rotating exhibitions of Japanese prints. Collection of Japanese prints from the museum contains important examples of traditional woodblock prints from the Edo period (1615-1868), especially in the late eighteenth and nineteenth century. The strength of the print collection, however, lies in the more than fifteen hundred copies of the Meiji era (1868-1912), Taisho (1912-1926) and Showa (1926-1989) periods. Sample on the basis of periods, themes or styles change every three months.

Edo-period works ranging from finely painted work of Rimpa, ukiyo-e, and Maruyama-Shijo school to spontaneous expressions of Zen monks-form the core of the collection of Japanese paintings from the museum. The paintings are naturally lit by sunlight filtered through streaming fiberglass panels. The effect is close to the original viewing conditions of these paintings and allows gold leaf, to reflect, create dimensional levels within the artwork is not visible when illuminated artificially. The displays can be seen from a distance, and the rolls are more in settings suggesting alcovelike tokonoma display area, in a Japanese house. Paintings are displayed in six levels in the east wing.

Netsuke were used as a lever and counterweight to help hang bags or boxes suspended from the belt of a man's kimono. The collection contains an array of 836 Bushell encyclopedic works of the seventeenth to the twentieth century. Netsuke facilities consist of 150 works grouped by topic and are rotated every three months. Special performance the zen music show

Last night we went to a small outdoor theater in the middle of the mountains. I can not describe the scenery because it was so beautiful. There was a beautiful bridge in front of huge mountains incredible.

There were dancers and warriors of the completion of the entire scene. There were colors flashing through all the mountains. I honestly can not explain how inxredible was. No words. Photos would not have done justice. That performance was definitely one of my favorite things we've done so far. The effects and stories that are told through dance and music was very inspiring and unique. I loved it.

    Hackney Banksy artwork painted

Council officials have painted over a Banksy graffiti sketch of a new version was derived as the cover artwork for Beat Crazy 2003 single by the band Blur.

The work of art - a caricature of the royal family waving from a balcony - had remained intact on the part of a block of flats in Stoke Newington, east London, for eight years before Hackney Council intervened last week.

Officials dismissed by the drawing Banksy - whose works have sold for hundreds of thousands of pounds - for the most exposure to date in Bristol, ready to close. The exhibition has attracted over 300,000 visitors since 13 June, raising £ 45,000 in donations to the museum, and is estimated to have been worth £ 10 million to the local economy.

Banksy vs Bristol Museum had over 100 works of art. The artist known secret has been reported that secretly adding new exhibition facilities at night.

A blogger known only as Stoke Newington Kris broke the news of the departure of the artwork.

Workers reported that the Council said he had told his employers about the importance of the artwork. "We knew it was a Banksy, love." Stoke Newington is a milestone, we know. We told them, but they would not listen, "wrote Kris.

The building owner, Sophie Attrill, told the Hackney Gazette who was devastated when he saw the wall being painted.

"I looked out the window and saw what they were doing, so I ran downstairs and told them to stop," said Attrill. Hackney Council said Attrill tried to contact before ordering the artwork to be painted, but the ads asking you to remove or cover the piece had not reached its direction by the Land Registry with incorrect contact details.

Alan Laing, Hackney Council Cabinet Member for neighborhoods, said the Council removed all the graffiti, regardless of artistic value.

"Hackney Council does not do a trial over whether graffiti is art or not, our job is to keep the streets clean Hackney. We have made four attempts to contact the property owner to inform you of our intention to remove the graffiti," said Laing .

"We are now talking to her about how to resolve the problem."

It is not the first time that Banksy has taken his art in the street killed by officials. In October last year Westminster City Council removed a mural of Newman Street in central London after the deputy council leader Robert Davis said keeping it would be "condoning" graffiti.

In 2007, a piece showing a monkey about to blow up a bunch of bananas at Waterloo Station in London, was painted by staff.

    • This article was amended on Friday, 4 September 2009. The original graphite implied that Hackney was identical to that used on the cover Blur. And the photograph accompanying our article on the original page are not a work of Banksy. This has been corrected.

Who is Early German Painting creation

Near the end of the late Gothic period, the oldest art centers of Germany and the Netherlands, went into decline. Cities such as Antwerp and Nuremberg, very quickly took over the lead role in the development and diffusion of the Renaissance style - not only in painting but also in other art forms. The main support for these events came from a wide network of humanist circles. Albrecht Dürer, who brought the new style of Nuremberg after his visits to Venice (1494-95 and 1505-07), became the founder of Renaissance southern Germany. The composition of the figures in his paintings shows a precise observation of the anatomy, understanding of perspective and a new vibrant use of color. His study of antiquity and Italian Renaissance was the basis of their new images.

Lucas Cranach the Elder was influenced by Dürer early in his career, but after 1505, developed his own very personal style in a work particularly extensive. As court painter to the dukes of Saxony in Wittenberg was forced to produce pictures, but also was responsible for the decoration of churches. Which had links with the humanist thinkers and was a friend of Martin Luther, who is often portrayed. Apart from the religious paintings (for example, The Martyrdom of Saint Catherine) Cranach was particularly interested in the representation of secular and mythological subjects (such as Venus and Cupid, Apollo and Diana, and the Trial of Paris), and these works show clearly Cranach the importance of art of Renaissance concept of beauty that emerged from the rediscovery of antiquity.

Hans Old Burgkmair first studied in the Upper Rhine region, with Martin Schongauer, and then settled in Augsburg in 1498. In 1503 he visited Cologne where Stefan Lochner Doomsday copied in a drawing. He also visited Italy and Venice, where he learned the principles of the new style. As a painter of both altarpieces and portraits, he is an artist in transition. Burgkmair made connections at court and produced a series of woodcuts for Emperor Maximilian I, became famous as an outstanding portrait painter in the new style between 1490 and 1512.

The influential role of Italian art can also be seen in the work of Georg Pencz. Headquartered in Nuremberg, which became the painter of the city in 1532, was a follower of Dürer and is likely to have formed in his workshop. Some of his panels show a close similarity to the style of Durer and often passed through Dürer's work.

Interior Decoration to your home make beautiful

Decorating your home can sometimes feels like an overwhelming task, but it doesn't have to be. Break your home decorating down by room.

Decorating your home by room allows you to complete small goals and feel satisfied that part of your project is complete.

Before you know it, your whole home will be renovated and you can sit back, relax and enjoy your hard work.

Yes, WE all live in houses of one sort or another. Before these houses can be lived in they must be furnished. When furnished, whether well or ill, they constitute the environment in which we spend the great part of our lives and as such influence us continuously and profoundly. In the degree that this environment is beautiful and comfortable it affects us favourably, making for repose, for quick recuperation from fatigue of mind or body, for cheerfulness, for wider and higher interests, and for a fuller and comelier mode of living generally. In the degree that it is uncomfortable and unbeautiful it makes quite as inevitably for the opposites of these desiderata.

It is therefore that a properly furnished house is, for each of us, a very important matter indeed; and, as a necessary corollary, that a knowledge of how to furnish a house properly is also a very important matter.

Interior decoration is the art of decorating a room, so it is attractive, easy to use and works well with the existing architecture. The purpose of the interior is to a certain "feel" for the room, it includes the use of wallpaper, wall decals, painting walls and other surfaces, choosing furniture and accessories, such as light the device, maps and other decorations for the area such as paintings, sculptures and tapestries. In some cases, interior decoration is performed by certified professional decorating.

although the terms interior decoration and interior are sometimes used, each discipline has a clear difference in the scope. Interior decoration is generally focused on the selection and presentation of the interior items within a space, such as furniture, accessories, finish and the lay-out room. Interior design, on the other side is manipulating the architectural integrity of the interior.

The painting of Lee Man Fong and his biography

Lee Man Fong was born on 14 November 1913 in Guangdong, China. Fong moved to Singapore in 1917 and studied at Anglo-Chinese school until 1929. Migrated to Java in 1932 and worked for Kolff, a Dutch printing and publishing. In 1936, the head of the Dutch East Indies in Batavia Fong Association invited to participate in an exhibition, a great honor because it was the first Dutch artist to be given this invitation. He was married to lie Muk Lan - pianist - and his son Lee Rem, born 1938, was also a painter who later presented with his father.

After 1940, Fong was devoted full time to painting. He visited Bali, briefly working there, and solo exhibitions, held in Jakarta and Bandung. Fong quickly gained recognition for his paintings of subjects in Bali, many influenced by the work of Willem Hofker. Then held a solo exhibition in Jakarta in 1941, after which he was interned by the Japanese.

In 1949, Fong received a scholarhip Malino to study art in the Netherlands Dutch. He was there for three years and then returned to Indonesia, where his talent was recognized by President Sukarno, who became an art consultant.

Fong from 1955 to 1961 served as president of Yinhua Meishu Xiehui (Society of Chinese Artists in Indonesia). From 1961 to 1966 he served as court painter at the presidential palace. In 1964, Lee Man Fong, along with Lim Wasim, compiled a 5-volume edition of the Collection of Soekarno, which also included many of his own works.

During this period Fong was granted Indonesian citizenship. In 1967, when Sukarno fell from grace, man Fong, who was considered close to Sukarno, and claimed to have Communist leanings, and this resulted in the artist's decision to move to Singapore in 1970. His career continued to flourish, and he often gave economic commissions by Chinese businessmen who wanted the painting of Chinese zodiac animals.

The 1980 Lee Man Fong suffered kidney and heart disease, and became increasingly private.

Lee Man Fong, who returned to Indonesia in 1985, died on 3 April 1988 in Jakarta.

Tips to Getting Your art in a gallery

How does an artist approach a gallery with paintings, galleries and what for? I'd like to share what I went with after a small workshop with four directors from the art gallery, sponsored by Upstate Visual Arts. The galleries ranged from a manipulation of the only work of new artists to a gallery of dealing with the resident artists and high-end clientele.

What are Administrators Galleries Looking For?
Administrators to view photos as art, but art is not original. The best way to approach these managers is as follows:

    * A CD of examples of his work. Failing that, slides or a small portfolio of printed works - anything that can be archived. The discs work best.
    * Realistic expectations about the price and the number of pieces in the gallery show.
    * Understanding realistic gallery commissions are about 40 to 50 percent. Some committees of the association of art are five to 10 percent, but you get what you pay - no reception, no advertising, and no printed takeout.
    * Egotism Realistic - get your ego in check before entering.
    * If you have to explain its deeper meaning, fogedabowdit! They sell art, not anxiety.

What kind of art galleries are there?
Not all galleries are the same. At the seminar, there were four types of galleries represented, each with their own needs.

At the upper end, a residential gallery represents a "matched" set of 11 artists and look to the other. To get there, you have to make friends with the resident artists, coincide with their customers, not compete directly. The aim of the gallery is to offer clients a set of art to suit your needs and tastes. This gives a value in the relationship between owners, artists, and clients.

Here is a gallery of 'show'. The administrator meets art national artists to meet the demands of a topic. The gallery is expected that each artist to Displaying 10 to 20 works and replace immediately sell. That means that the sending of 30 to 40 works for an exhibition. In this gallery, the relationship ends when the show ends. Only work sold during the show is commissionable. Artists can offer referral commissions for post-show but are not necessary. The objective of the owner of the gallery is to promote art, artists are not particular, and to build a customer base among large numbers of collectors.

Here is a gallery of new artists. To get here you can expect the manager to take only one or two examples of his work. Show n 'is done so commissions are lower. The aim of the gallery is to have higher end galleries artists steal. She also gets her kicks from the development of new collectors and suit your taste and budget against the new artists.

Finally, an art space Gallery Association. To obtain a sample here, simply apply for and obtain a set time. The fees are low because the association does not promote, advertise, or anything else. They have shown and cash when the sale takes place. The aim of this type of gallery is simply to show local artists and to provide its members with a gallery space, because there is a shortage of such space in the area.

    The other option
As a side note, the galleries that deal with personally (none of those mentioned here) have artists in residence and put in programs to build your market and add variety to your preferred gallery. These galleries are all set with a story and I suspect that this model is the more economically viable. To obtain a sample in one of these galleries, which helps to make a project with one of their artists in residence or not doing their work presented to managers. In very few cases are brought to a walk-in in the gallery of a show.

An art gallery showing of his

The enigmatic painter Itji Tarmizi in Remembering

A family is upset that a man and a woman and a child trying desperately to escape the smoking volcano behind them. His anxiety is skillfully conveyed through the expressions on their faces and gestures. The outlines of a somber tone of the oils, extensively applied either with a spatula or brush, set the tragic tone of the painting.

This representation is disturbing Tarmizi Itji work, the youngest member of Sanggar pelukis Rakyat (People's Studio painter), who was considered one of the most talented painters in the country.

Tarmizi died on 28 November after a brief battle with liver cancer. Immediately after being diagnosed with malignant disease, only two months, his friends prepared a solo exhibition at a gallery in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, from November 23.

Although he managed to inspect preparations for the exhibition the day before it began, was in serious need of medical attention at the opening day and could not attend the party. It was to be his first and last solo exhibition, and had never seen his works on display.

The artist seems to have had a rather unfortunate life. He was hearing impaired, making it difficult for him to communicate.

In 1953, Hendra Gunawan joined in the studio. Their presence was noted by art historian Claire Holt, who mentions him, and even includes pictures of two of his paintings in his book Art in Indonesia. Tarmizi Paintings can also be found in the art collection of President Sukarno.

In the 1960s, was in his prime, and produced his best work. One of his most monumental work is an interpretation of the family of a fisherman on the north coast of East Java, watching the horizon, as if anticipating a future promising. The painting is done in a style derived from the school of Russian social realism and resembles the kind of realism developed in China.

Reports not yet clear whether Tarmizi learned their techniques of painting in Russia or China, but suggesting that he had actually spent some time studying in Russia. Although he had recently begun to reveal their past experiences, tended to avoid questions related to travel to Russia or China.

The Rakyat pelukis LEKRA received substantial support from the Institute of Popular Culture. After the abortive coup on 30 September 1965, members were persecuted pelukis Rakyat.

Virtually all colleagues Tarmizi were captured and imprisoned. Miraculously, the artist was able to escape and return to their homeland in Lintau, West Sumatra, where he lived under the protection of her grandmother.

For over 30 years throughout the New Order era, which produces very few works, the quality decreased. Although never physically imprisoned, was not free to express their feelings and thoughts. His grandmother, he learned the art of embroidery, and produced his own compositions, which seem to have a cosmological meaning.

Towards the end of his life, seems to wear the suit only one of its own design, embellished with embroidery symbolic. These designs do not appear in the extensive exhibition gallery.

Tarmizi reappeared in the art scene in Indonesia after the fall of the New Order in 1998. By chance, a number of his works appeared in old art auctions in Indonesia and managed to see them. He also revisited his old works, many of which are still standing proudly in the homes of major art collectors.

Earlier this year, met with the painting of the fishing village of East Java. He spent a while watching the scene. It was like a father looking over his long lost son. He was inspired to paint again.

Although he worked hard to re-develop their skills in painting, his recent works lacked the strength evident in its output since the 1950s and 60s. In short, who had been out of practice for over thirty years.

Di Akhir Abad (End of the Century), completed at midnight, 31 December 2000, is a painting inspired by the monumental painting 1960 of the family in the fishing village in East Java. However, the figures in the aspect of recent work, such as primates, unlike the characters in the film Planet of the Apes, painted in pastel shades. To be honest, is very far from the previous piece.

Perhaps with practice, Tarmizi could be resurrected to become one of the greatest painters of Indonesia, but his health failed him. What I most regret not being able to conduct a proper interview with him. Communication with him was always very difficult.

Meirizal, his nephew, would spell out the questions asked him letter by letter, and then he answered his manner of expression, which was not easy to understand. His nephew, also would have to interpret what he was trying to say that let me understand what he meant.

Tarmizi enigmatic character and experiences were fascinating and important for us to know and understand. Unfortunately, his knowledge is gone forever and can only be studied through their artwork.
